Genealogical Research

Posted on August 20, 2021 in: General News

For those engaged in genealogical research, the Diocese of Scranton's policy is to protect the privacy of those named in the records by allowing access only to sacramental records seventy years and older. Records less than seventy years old are sealed to the public and only the named person(s) in the record(s) may access it (them). These records include: Baptismal, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Wedding, death, and burial records.

If you would like to conduct  more research, the Northeast Genealogical Society (NEPGS), 57 North Franklin Stree, WIlkes-Barre, PA (570-829-1765) has copies of the sacramental records from all the churches in the Diocese of Scranton.
